From reimagining the value of everyday organic waste to engineering next-generation sustainable materials, Ovectus is pioneering a new era in biomaterial innovation. Their AI-enhanced, circular approach earned them the distinction of e-Revolutionaries Special Winner 2025, highlighting their groundbreaking work in waste transformation and intelligent manufacturing.

We spoke with Oktay Ayar, the founder of Ovectus to learn more about their mission, their technology, and how they are shaping the future of sustainable materials.

For those who may not know Ovectus yet, can you give a brief overview of your company and what inspired its creation?

Oktay Ayar: Ovectus is an AI-powered biomaterials company that transforms organic waste such as coffee grounds, Azolla, ginger pulp and agricultural fibers into high-performance bio-filament, bio-granules and bio-leather.

The inspiration came from a simple but powerful idea: waste holds untapped potential.

One year ago, while working as a head waiter, I looked at the coffee grounds left behind every day and realized they could become the raw material of a new sustainable industry. That moment sparked Ovectus an initiative proving that innovation can start anywhere, even with a handful of discarded coffee.

What key challenges or gaps in the market motivated you to build your solution?

Oktay Ayar: Three major gaps inspired Ovectus:

  1. The need for scalable and affordable sustainable materials as the world shifts away from petroleum-based plastics.
  2. Inconsistent quality in current waste-to-material processes, creating reliability problems.
  3. The absence of AI-driven optimization in biomaterial manufacturing.

Ovectus was built to create a fully digital, fully optimized circular system where nature and technology work together.

Can you tell us more about the team behind Ovectus and what makes you work well together?

Oktay Ayar: Ovectus currently operates through a hybrid structure: a lean founder-led R&D team enhanced by AI systems such as SmartMat AI and the Gauss Quality System.

AI handles simulation, optimization and quality control, while human insight drives creativity, material exploration and strategic decision-making.

This model allows us to move fast, test rapidly, and scale intelligently with minimal resources.

Ovectus was selected as a Special Winner, what makes your work stand out?

Oktay Ayar: Three things differentiate Ovectus:

  1. Circular innovation with real industrial value: We turn everyday waste coffee grounds, ginger pulp, plant fibers into high-performance materials instead of simply recycling them.
  2. AI-driven manufacturing: SmartMat AI analyzes temperature, torque, humidity and pressure data in real time, while the Gauss-based system ensures consistent product quality.
  3. Market readiness: Our formulations and protocols are designed specifically for European sustainability standards and rapidly growing demand in 3D printing and packaging.

This combination AI, material science and circular design sets Ovectus apart in today’s biomaterials landscape.

Can you share a success story or example that illustrates your impact?

Oktay Ayar: One of our early breakthroughs was achieving a fully optimized bio-filament formula using only organic waste and natural binders. What began as a small experiment quickly evolved into a stable, high-performance material with commercial potential.

This success validated not only our scientific foundation but also the power of our AI-driven process.

What has been your proudest achievement with Ovectus so far?

Oktay Ayar: Being selected as the e-Revolutionaries Special Winner is the most meaningful milestone.

It shows that the international innovation community recognizes Ovectus as a serious and impactful project and that our mission resonates far beyond our starting point.

What does receiving the Special Winner award mean to you and your team?

Oktay Ayar: It is both an honor and a responsibility.

This award brings global visibility, credibility and momentum. For a sustainability driven startup built from scratch, such recognition fuels determination and confirms that our work matters.

How does this recognition align with the mission or values behind Ovectus?

Oktay Ayar: Ovectus stands for transformation, courage and innovation.

We believe waste can become a valuable resource when combined with intelligence and creativity.

The award perfectly reflects this vision: it acknowledges not just a product, but a philosophy seeing potential where others see waste.

What trends or shifts in your industry do you find most exciting?

Oktay Ayar: The three most exciting trends today are:

  1. The rapid adoption of sustainable and biodegradable materials, especially in Europe.
  2. The integration of AI into materials science, reducing R&D time dramatically.
  3. The rise of waste to value systems, turning environmental problems into economic opportunities.

How is Ovectus innovating or adapting to these changes?

Oktay Ayar: Ovectus integrates biological data, material simulations and Gauss-based optimization into a fully digital biomaterial pipeline.

Our SmartMat AI system predicts defects, adjusts machine parameters and ensures consistent quality something traditional manufacturing cannot achieve.

Are there any challenges you aspire to solve next?

Oktay Ayar: Our next challenge is to scale the production of bio-leather using Azolla and plant fibers while maintaining a zero waste process.

We also aim to introduce blockchain based transparency for full material traceability.

What are your main goals for Ovectus in the coming year?

Oktay Ayar: Our goals for the next 12 months:

  • Build the first Ovectus micro factory prototype
  • Begin industrial testing for our bio-filament and bio-granule lines
  • Form European partnerships in 3D printing, packaging and sustainable fashion
  • Continue developing SmartMat AI into a licensable quality intelligence platform

Are there any upcoming developments or projects you’re excited to share?

Oktay Ayar: Yes. We are currently developing:

  • SmartMat AI 2.0, which will include Gauss based anomaly detection and predictive material behavior
  • A new bio-leather generation designed to replicate premium leather using only organic waste and plant structures
  • A fully circular “waste  product compost” ecosystem to be implemented in Estonia

Ovectus is more than a company for me.

It is proof that a person can start with nothing, just an idea, a handful of coffee grounds and build something that may one day change how the world sees waste.

Ovectus exists because we choose to see potential, not limitations.
