Freshmango’s Juicy Spin on Modern Startup Accelerators

What if startup accelerators weren’t built around exclusivity, equity, and old-school gatekeeping? Freshmango is rethinking the model from the ground up. In this interview, we explore how this AI-native, equity-free accelerator is opening up access to capital, removing bias from founder evaluation, and helping early-stage startups across the globe build and fund their ideas—on their own terms. We sat down with founder Philip Adler to chat through his vision with Freshmango. 

1. Tell us about Freshmango (and your customers)!

Freshmango is an equity-free, fully-remote startup accelerator built for early-stage founders.

We run a single, structured program that combines hands-on mentorship, fundraising support, and access to a growing network of investors and partners––without taking a share of your company. We currently have 40 enrolled startups spanning sectors from B2B SaaS and DeepTech to MedTech, FoodTech, and AI infrastructure, with founders across Europe, Canada, and Africa.

Our customers are early-stage founders –– typically pre-seed to seed –– who have something real to build, but need the structure, accountability, and capital access to do it properly. We're not looking for the polished pitch. We're looking for the founder who can execute.

2. What market problem did you spot and fix with Freshmango?

The startup-funding ecosystem has a structural flaw: Gated access to capital.

You can throw ‘merit’ out the window. Gatekeeping is often navigated by network, geography, pedigree, and the ability to pitch in a room full of people who all went to the same universities. Information about how fundraising actually works is scarce, inconsistently shared, and often deliberately obscured. This means billions in available capital sits undeployed while founders who could put it to work building companies, creating jobs and driving growth simply never find the door.

Every accelerator in the world runs on human pattern-matching, which means it inadvertently selects for founders who look, sound and pitch like previous winners. Additionally, most accelerators treat a business like a business: Evaluate it, filter it, invest in it or don't. The founder, and their potential, are often lost.

Freshmango was built to break that loop and recover that lost potential.

3. Can you tell us about how Freshmango works?

Freshmango is Europe's first AI-native accelerator.

That's not a marketing label. It's a structural decision that shapes everything from how we evaluate founders to how we support them through the program. Our platform (Freshmango OS) runs on AI-assisted tooling built to remove the bottlenecks that slow traditional accelerators down: Subjective evaluation, inconsistent mentorship, and slow feedback loops.

We move faster, scale further, and we make better decisions because our system is designed to surface signals, not reinforce bias. I say this plainly: humans are biased—code is not.

Our AI-native infrastructure means a founder in Riga gets the same quality of evaluation and support as one in London. The program is equity-free by design. Our incentive should be your success, not your cap table. We think it's the only honest way to run an accelerator.

4. What’s been Xolo’s role in all this excitement?

Freshmango is incorporated in Estonia as an OÜ (similar to an LLC or Limited Company), which made Xolo a natural fit from early on in Europe.

Managing a fully remote, cross-border operation (with founders, mentors, and partners across multiple jurisdictions) requires a back-office that doesn't become a distraction. Xolo handles the administrative and compliance layer that, if ignored, quietly becomes a crisis. The setup works because it's built for exactly this kind of company: digital-first, Estonian-registered, internationally operated. It removes an entire category of operational risk so we can stay focused on what matters most.

5. Where do you see Freshmango in a year?

A year from now, Freshmango will have doubled its enrolled startup count, with 80 active founders in the program and a track record of capital raised that makes the equity-free model impossible to argue with. Freshmango OS v2 (our AI-native platform rebuild) will be live and onboarding new founders directly. The Freshmango Angels syndicate will have completed its first deals, investing exclusively in program graduates and closing the loop between execution inside the program and capital on the other side of it.

We want to be the infrastructure layer for early-stage fundraising in Europe, long term. Not just an accelerator that founders pass through, but the platform they keep using as they grow.

6. Any best tips for founders currently fundraising?

First, stop fundraising before you're ready.

Showing up to investor conversations without a clear story about your traction, your metrics, or your ask is not just ineffective, it burns relationships you'll need later. Know your numbers before you enter any room.

Second, most available capital in Europe is non-dilutive and goes unclaimed every year.

Founders don't know it exists or don't know how to access it. EU grants, national innovation funds, R&D credits––these are real, substantial and non-dilutive. Freshmango has helped companies access over €38M in capital, including roughly €12M in EU grants alone. It's not easy money, but it's money that doesn't cost you equity, and that matters enormously at the early stage.
