Spain’s Ministry of Finance has officially confirmed a one-year delay to the mandatory implementation of VeriFactu, the invoicing verification and anti-fraud system for freelancers and companies. While the regulation remains in place, the deadlines have now shifted to 2027, giving taxpayers more time to adapt.

Below is a clear breakdown of the new timeline and what this means for your business.

New official VeriFactu deadlines for 2027

Hacienda has established the following changes:
  1. IS taxpayers (corporate income tax)
    Original date: 1 January 2026
    New date: 1 January 2027

  2. Freelancers / self-employed (IRPF)
    Original date: 1 July 2026
    New date: 1 July 2027

  3. Invoicing software providers
Deadline remains unchanged: 29 July 2025

This requirement is already in force, meaning invoicing providers must comply before taxpayers do.

Xolo’s invoicing system has already been updated according to this 2025 mandate, meeting all Tax Agent technical specifications.

What does this change mean for freelancers and SMEs?

For most professionals, it means more time to plan and more flexibility to adapt. The regulation is not cancelled; it is simply postponed. VeriFactu will still become mandatory in 2027 and will require certified invoicing software capable of generating immutable records, digital signatures, traceability, and QR codes.

For now, freelancers do not need to modify their invoicing setup immediately. The additional year reduces pressure on businesses preparing for the transition in 2026.

Should freelancers prepare early?

Preparing early is optional but can be helpful for those who want to avoid last-minute changes. Getting familiar with VeriFactu-ready tools now can make the transition smoother once the rule becomes fully enforced in 2027.

That said, with the new dates confirmed, each professional can choose the timing that best fits their workflow.

Why Xolo users have flexibility

Xolo’s invoicing software already complies with all technical VeriFactu requirements set by the Tax Agent for certified invoicing tools. This means:

  • Xolo is fully VeriFactu-compliant as a software provider.

  • Freelancers can choose when to activate VeriFactu mode inside Xolo — either now or closer to the 2027 deadline.

  • You won’t need to change tools; you can simply decide whether you want to activate it now or wait until it becomes mandatory in 2027.

Your software is ready, and you control when to become compliant as a taxpayer.

New call-to-action

With Xolo already aligned with the software requirements introduced in 2025, you can continue working with peace of mind — and activate VeriFactu whenever the moment is right for you.
